Why You Should Not Fear Traveling Abroad With Your Family

In order to make a better life for ourselves and our families, one of the choices we have to make today is whether to stay where we are and build there, or to move somewhere else, start over, and build from there.

Many people think it’s an easy question to answer, but the cost of moving makes it hard.
I’m not just talking about how much it costs in money, though that is a part of it. I’m also talking about what you have to give up and how the benefits are often overlooked.

It might seem easy to move if things aren’t going well, but for people in the middle class and above, it’s more about finding stability, especially for their children.
As a parent, I can tell you that this fear is real.
You want to give your family the best.
But many people have to give up a lot as well.
Stability, job prospects, a good way to make a living, a good social network, etc.

I had to decide whether or not to move abroad for a long time, and when I finally did, I had to start all over again.
I had trouble and never felt good about it.
Everything reminded me of what life could be like back home, but since moving back was unheard of, it seemed like a bad idea.
When I finally did, it was hard to pick up where I left off because my peers had moved on, but I didn’t need to think about them, so I started over.

Alhamdulillah, I found all of that and much, much more.

Do I sometimes still think about moving?
Yes, I do.
Not because things are bad, but because so many other people are doing it and you don’t want to miss out.
You wonder and wonder if what you’re doing is right.

Here’s what I know: It’s a very unsettling thought that keeps you from being happy with what you have now.
Too bad, because life is too short.

I’ve spent many years of my life living abroad, and I can tell you that while it’s good for many people, it’s not always right for you.

Don’t pray to be in the UK, the US, Canada, or any other place.
Pray to be where God wants you to be when you’re at your best.
While you’re at it, enjoy what you have today, because things aren’t always so great in other countries.
